An investigation has been launched against 20 lawyers, members of the Free Lawyers Platform (ÖHD). Lawyers working in Van, Diyarbakır and Batman went to the police station and gave their statements as part of the investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization".
The content of the investigation, which was launched last year, is unknown due to the confidentiality decision imposed on the file. When the lawyers went and gave their statements, the motives of the investigation were also revealed.
Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office targeted the ÖHD lawyers' denunciation of the attacks on HPG graves two years ago and their acting on behalf of the Association for Unity, Culture and Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER).
Lawyers called to testify in the provinces they live in were asked about the activities of MEBYA-DER at the police station, whether they are members of MEBYA-DER, and the criminal complaint they made about attacks on cemeteries.
The lawyers ANF talked to on the subject stated that the confidentiality order has not been lifted yet, therefore they have not yet seen the file and added: “When we look at the file, we will be able to learn exactly what happened. But during the deposition, we were asked questions about our criminal complaint regarding cemeteries and being a MEBYA-DER lawyer. We were also asked whether we were members of MEBYA-DER. Obviously, all of our activities as lawyers have been considered a crime."
