Activists Kobanê and Bağdur taken under treatment in Berlin

Activists Ömer Bağdur and Cemal Kobane who ended their hunger strikes after Öcalan’s call on Sunday, have been hospitalized and taken under treatment today.

Ömer Bağdur, Cemal Kobanê, Şiyar Xelil and Mele Mustafa Tuzak joined the massive hunger strike campaign against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan in Germany’s capital Berlin. All the activists ended their action on Sunday following Öcalan’s call for the end of hunger strikes and death fasts.

Medical teams on Sunday examined the activists who were experiencing serious health problems after months without food, but suggested that they were “in good state of health” and did not refer them to hospital.

While the health teams got reactions from the representatives of Kurdish institutions in Berlin, activists Ömer Bağdur and Cemal Kobanê have been taken to hospital today and their treatment has begun.

Kobanê and Bağdur, who ended their indefinite hunger strike on day 118, are kept under observation in the intensive care unit. Doctors express concern over the risk of infection for the two activists.

On the other hand, Şiyar Xelil, who fasted for 121 days and was hospitalized yesterday, continues receiving treatment in intensive care unit.

The other hunger strike activist, Mele Mustafa Tuzak, remains under treatment since Monday. Tuzak experienced severe weight loss after 134 days of fast.
