Afrin resistance saluted in Sweden

Left Party leader Jonas Sjöstedt condemned Turkey's invasion and Europe's silence.

Some 277 rallies and actions were organized in over 100 sites in Sweden to celebrate Labor Day.

The Social Democratic Workers Party organized demonstrations with the slogan "Together for safety" in 155 sites, while the Democratic Left Party, Communist Party and Swedish Workers' Central Organization-Syndikalisterna (Sac) focused on their demands to defend the right to strike and to protect retirement age.

The Left Party's main slogan was: "It's our turn" while the Swedish Workers' Central Organization-Syndikalisterna (Sac) reclaimed "the right to strike" and the Feminist Initiative and the Communist Party demonstrated reclaiming the right to strike, and the retirement age.

Kurds rallied in many Swedish cities

The Kurdish people and friends attended the May Day celebrations with PKK, YPG / YPJ, PJAK flags and portraits of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan in many cities including Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö and Örebro. They chanted slogans against the occupation of Afrin by the Turkish state and its mercenary allies.

Kurdish people together with Turkish left and the Left Party, marched and chanted slogans like: "Turkish army out of Kurdistan", "Boycott Turkey", "Ocalan freedom, Kurdistan peace", "Live long Leader Apo".

Slogans condemning the Turkish state and supporting the Kurdish Freedom Movement, resonated along the rallies in the different cities.

Left Party Sjöstedt condemned human rights violation in Turkey and Kurdistan

Left Party leader Jonas Sjöstedt, underlined the violations of human rights in Turkey and Kurdistan in his speech.

"Kobanê, Shengal, Raqqa, the Kurds, Arabs and other minorities have fought - he said - in  alliance to defeat DAESH and they succeeded. Afrin was attacked and occupied by a NATO country, Turkey which entered Northern Syria. So, who defeated the Islamic State, who are fighting for a better future and equality is actually being attacked by Turkey."

Thousands of people responded with applause to Sjöstedt's words, "We will never forget those who fought against the Islamic State - he said - we support the Kurdish people".

Sjöstedt criticized the European Union and the Swedish government for not taking a decisive stance on the Turkish state and the mercenary gangs that occupied Afrin and asked to release all political prisoners.

Neo Nazi provocation

The Neo-Nazi organization called the Northern Resistance Movement (NMR) organized provocative demonstrations on 1 May in Borlänge and Falun in the past years, this year appeared in Boden.

The NMR, which organized anti-immigrant demonstrations in the area, was met with the resistance of local people and anti-racists.
