AKP extorts prisoners

Involved in all kinds of theft and corruption, the AKP is now making arrestees and convicts pay for power, water, wards and food.

Dealing with the financial crisis, the AKP government continues to rob citizens. With the ongoing crisis, there are daily price hikes in food, clothing and fuel.

Most commodities Turkey used to produce are now imported from abroad. The AKP government has raised the price of gas and diesel to 7 liras, selling the citizens the most expensive fuel in the world. Potatoes cost 6 liras for the kilo, and onions 7. The AKP has deprived people of the most basic onion, while continuing to enrich their supporters.

TORTURE CONTINUES IN PRISONS

The AKP is now going after the little money arrestees and convicts have. The Special Security Prison Type T built in Van during AKP’s term has most prisoners stay in solitary cells.

In this high security prison, there are human rights violations almost every day. Prisoners are subjected to psychological and physical torture, while their relatives are kept waiting outside for hours and subjected to detailed searches. On top of the torture methods in place, the prison is controlled by ISIS and other gang/mafia type organizations.

FAMILIES PROTEST

On top of the lawlessness, the AKP makes arrestees and convicts in prisons in Van pay for power, water, wards and food. The AKP making prisoners pay in Van where poverty rates are very high has caused a stir.

Thousands of family members come from Van and neighboring cities to see their children in prisons. Families visiting their children are protesting the state charging the prisoners.

AKP CONTINUES THE “WHY WOULD WE FEED THEM?” MINDSET

Families with imprisoned children are protesting the AKP extortinf prisoners and say the state is robbing people. A relative of a prisoner who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons spoke to the ANF and said, “I visited my son last week. The administration made him pay for food, power, water and boarding. They both imprisoned our children with no crime, and they want money. This is a very poor state. They even extort the people they imprison.

We are already coming from other cities to see our children. Coming to Van is hard both financially and emotionally. And now we have to deal with this extortion. This is unacceptable. Kenan Evren used to say, ‘Why would we feed them when we could execute them?’ and today the AKP government continues the practice. They are asking for money for the one plate of food they give our children.”
