The government has closed down a local radio broadcasting in Kurdish in Konya province, after the president Erdogan said: “There is no Kurdish problem”.
The local radio, “Voice of Cihanbeyli”, broadcasting in Kurdish in the Cihanbeyli district of Konya province, has been closed down by the AKP municipality on the grounds of not having a registration document. The office of the radio station was sealed by the municipality without giving any prior notice.
The responsible person of the radio, Günay Sağır, who is also a candidate at the general elections in Konya for the HDP, said the radio recently started broadcasting and is trying to reach all segments of society through its programmes, adding that they first had power cuts during the programmes in Kurdish and were then closed down by the AKP municipality. Sağır said the reason for the closing down was the lack of a registration document, adding that they should have been given 10 days notice before the closure. However, the municipality closed the radio without any prior notice.
