AKP’s fear of the HDP grows: Detentions in various cities

As the elections draw close, detentions targeting HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) members are on the rise. Several people have been detained in various cities.

The AKP-MHP regime continues to pressure the HDP, which willbe determining the outcome of the fast approaching June 24 elections. In political genocide operations in Elazığ, Mardin, Adana, Urfa and Antalya, several people were detained.

ELAZIĞ

Many homes in the city center and the Kovancılar and Arıcak districts and villages were raided early in the morning in Elazığ and HDP Kovancılar District Co-chair Resul Ülker and Arıcak District Co-chair Aziz Bayrak along with 20 other party members were detained.

Some of the detainees were taken to the Elazığ Gendarmerie Command, and others to the Palu Courthouse.

MARDİN

55 years old Cemal Nergis in Nusaybin, Mardin was detained in a house raid in Selahattin Eyyubi neighborhood. Nergis was taken to the District Security Directorate.

His family said Nergis was detained for saying, “Long live the HDP” in a speech in a people’s meeting in the city, and flashing a victory sign.

ADANA

In the Seyhan, Ceyhan, Yüreğir and Çukurova districts of Adana, the police carried out simultaneous raids this morning and rammed down several of the houses they raided.

The operation was carried out because of social media posts, and 15 people were detained.

The detainees were taken to the District Security Directorate.

URFA

Urfa Anti-terror Unit policemen raided several addresses in the morning in the Devteşti neighborhood of Urfa’s Haliliye district and detained two young people named Vedat Gökler and Mustafa Yılmaz Çilek were detained. Gökler and Çilek are held in the Urfa Anti-terror Unit.

ANTALYA

Yesterday evening, students in the Akdeniz University had their homes raided by the police. Faruk Ceylan, Mazlum Efe, Ebubekir Ergün, Habat Karayılan and Sedat Alkan were detained.
