Al Qaeda suffers heavy losses in attack on YPG checkpoint

The YPG (People's Defense Units) Media Centre has made a statement regarding an attack by the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) on a YPG checkpoint near Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ayn), in which 6 attackers were killed and 8 others wounded.

In the YPG statement it is reported that armed groups belonging to ISIS, which is affiliated to Al-Qaeda, mounted an assault with heavy weaponry on a YPG checkpoint in the village of Xirbet El Benat 25 kilometres west of Serêkaniyê on the evening of 23 December.

In the resulting clashes 6 attackers were killed and 8 wounded. The YPG reports that it has four of the corpses of the gang members, and that it has taken possession of a BKC machine gun, 1 ARPG and 2 AK47s.

The YPG Media Centre also reported that two YPG fighters had died in the clashes.
