Amed resistance through ANF lenses

On 19 August the AKP-MHP regime seized the HDP-run municipalities of Amed, Van and Mardin and dismissed the democratically elected mayors to replace them with state-appointed trustees.

Protests have been going on since the first day of the seizure. On the 9th day of protest, HDP deputies, civil society representatives and a large crowd attended the action.

Every day at 11 am a large crowd gather in Lise Street, next to Amed metropolitan municipality for a sit-in action. Then at 1pm a press release is read and after 10 more minutes of sit-in the crowd disperses.

Almost everyone, except the HDP deputies, is now considered to be regulars of the resistance. All faces are now very familiar. The attendance is growing. Resistance and serhildan songs are not missed, women's zilgit and applause are heard every 3 minutes.

Mother Aklime and Dengbêj Feleknaz became resistance symbols, morale and motivation for the crowd with their songs.

Remarkable is also the participation of young people among participants. When you hear a song that starts with 'Diren ha Diyarbekir Diren' (Resist Diyarbakir, Resist), you understand that young people are singing this song, and as a journalist, you get over there to shoot good pictures.

Every person who comes to the resistance area says that he/she will continue to struggle until reclaiming the municipality.

This determined stance surely will paves the way for more people to join the resistance. the growing crowd of the masses. Because the sit-in on Lise Street is appealing to a new heart every day at 11 am.
