Ankara’s fancy for Kirkuk: “Ancestral land”

The Turkish state sent Ambassador to Baghdad Fatih Yıldız to Kirkuk on the first day of Eid. Yıldız attended the Eid prayers in Kirkuk, which he called their “ancestral land”.

The Turkish state attempts to create chaos in Kirkuk on one hand through the armed gang groups they formed in the region through the Iraqi Turkmen Front, and is starting to more openly state their fancies regarding Kirkuk on the other.

Ambassador to Baghdad Fatih Yıldız attended the Eid prayers in the Great Nour Mosque in a visit to Kirkuk and stated that Turkey has intentions to open consulates in new Iraqi provinces.

Yıldız said, “Kirkuk for us is ancestral land. And for people here, Turkey is ancestral land in the same way.”

Yıldız argued that the new government to be formed in Iraq should include Turkmens and put forth Ankara’s intentions to open a consulate in Kirkuk.

WHO DID THEY MAKE A DEAL WITH FOR KIRKUK?

Yıldız said, “We will meet with the Baghdad government and discuss new opportunities for representation for Kirkuk and Najaf.”

Yıldız claimed that citizens on the streets and markets of Kirkuk show great interest in Turkey and pointed out that they have a deal with the regional government for the province. Yıldız didn’t clarify who made the deal or when, or what the deal entailed.
