Anniversary of Shengal massacre to be marked throughout Germany

To mark the anniversary of the Shengal massacre, rallies will be held in many cities of Germany by the initiative of NAV-DEM, in which the recent aggressions of the Turkish state on Shengal will also be protested.

Democratic Kurdish Society Center in Germany (NAV-DEM) has announced a series of demonstrations to mark the anniversary of the Shengal genocide.

The written statement of NAV-DEM is as follows:

"Throughout the history, the extinction of our Kurdish community of Êzidîs, the bearer of one of the most ancient religions of Mesopotamia was sought by genocidal decrees. The latest of these decrees was perpetrated on the Kurdish community of Êzidîs in August of 2014 by the barbaric ISIS, a gang organisation let loose on the Middle East by the capitalist modernity and its fascist AKP accomplice.

Ruling forces which always regarded the Êzidîs as a threat in their side, subjected them to genocidal decrees 73 times, and brought them to the brink of annihilation. Even though no more than three years have passed since the Shengal genocide on 3rd August, the fascist AKP continues to push harder its aggressions and hostile policy towards the tremendously suffering Kurds of Shengal.

Still the people of Shengal stand up in defiance of all the siege, and carries on to resist and build up a new life. Our Shengal and Êzidî people are fulfilling dreams for which hundreds of martyrs gave their blood. The same Êzidîs that ISIS killed and buried in masses, abducted and turned into refugees to thousands, are today leading their own land and undertake their own defense. To lift the threat of massacres once and for all, the Êzidî Kurds have not limited themselves to the rebuilding of a new life by reorganising in councils and establishing their own autonomous rule, but have also formed the Shengal Resistance Units (YBS) and Shengal Women's Units (YJŞ)which ensure that the barbarians could never again lay hands on the people.

We the NAV-DEM believe that Shengal's liberation is not only for all the Kurdish people a victory, but has to be taken as a victory for all of humanity and be supported with that understanding. We call on our people in Germany and the other European countries to stand up everywhere with such awareness in support of the people of Shengal, to mark the anniversary of the Shengal genocide."
