Another racist attack on Kurdish workers in Istanbul -UPDATE
Two Kurdish workers were assaulted by three unidentified people for speaking Kurdish in a construction area in Istanbul's Bağcılar district last night.
The attack on workers, Tekin Güngör and Muhammet Öztürk, came at around 11 p.m. last night, as they were speaking Kurdish, their mother language, with their families on the phone.
The assailants who attacked Kurdish workers later covered them in blankets and left them outside the containers in the construction area of an electric installation of Ege Yapı Constrution Company.
Güngör and Öztürk were taken to hospital by other workers who noticed them 40 minutes later. Güngör remains in critical situation while Öztürk has been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.
Hundreds of workers gathered in the construction area and started a march to protest the bloody racist attack on Kurdish construction workers on Friday morning.
After marching to the office of a Turkish channel to have their voice heard, workers blocked the traffic on Mahmutbey TEM highway where they have started sit in. Workers later turned back to the construction area and demanded a meeting with building contractors, saying that they have no security of life at work.
Speking about the incident, a worker said that “Our friends were assaulted for being Kurds and speaking their mother language. This is not the first time we are witnessing such an attack”.
