No measures are being taken to prevent violence against women in Turkey where more and more women are falling victim to violence every passing day.
Nineteen year-old Pınar Y. in the western province of İzmir has been one of the victims of domestic violence. She died on Friday.
According to the information gathered, the young woman first suffered a brutal assault by her husband, 26-year-old Mehmet Y., to whom she has been married for two months. The quarrel between the young woman and her husband broke at midnight in the neighborhood of Yamanlar in İzmir's Karşıyaka district. The man seriously wounded his wife whom he reportedly took to the emergency service of a hospital nearby before he left her and escaped. Police is searching for the suspect.
According to human rights organizations, violence against women has increased by 1400 percent since the ruling AK Party came to power. Around five women are killed by men, mainly by their (ex)husbands, family member and relatives, every day.
