At least 10 killed in blast at Istanbul's Sultanahmet Square

A blast has occurred at the Sultanahmet Square in the Turkish city of Istanbul at around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A blast has occurred at the Sultanahmet Square in the Turkish city of Istanbul at around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

While a number of ambulances and police forces have been dispatched to the area, images from the scene show some people lying on the ground and a police vehicle overturned.

According to initial reports and eyewitnesses, the blast which occurred at a busy touristic area left dozens of people dead or injured. Police teams have evacuated the area and are not allowing anyone to the scene.

An official statement by Istanbul Governor's Office said 10 people have died and 15 others were wounded in the blast. Those injured have been rushed to Haseki Training and Research Hospital. Some of these are said to have suffered heavy injuries.
