At least 49 people detained

A new political genocide operation led to detention of over 49 people.

Within the scope of political genocide policies, simultaneous operations were carried out in 6 cities. At least 49 people were detained in such police operations

BATMAN

This morning in Batman police raided many houses. 8 people were detained, including Nizamettin Toğuç, the co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). The 8 people taken into custody were taken to the Batman Police Department.

URFA

People's Democratic Party (HDP) Provincial Organization chair Mahmut Kılıç was taken into custody. Computers and mobile phones belonging to family members were also confiscated during the house raid.

Gendarmerie meanwhile arrested a young man named Resul Şeker on a separate operation. Şeker was taken into custody accused of social media sharing.

ANKARA

Police raided the Ankara home of the family Ethem Sarısülük, who was killed by police during the Gezi Resistance. Sarısülük'in brother Sarrar Sarısülük has said of the raid in social media this morning.

Police said they were looking for Mustafa Sarısülük who is actually living in Europe.

Author Temel Demirer was detained in Istanbul complying with an Ankara public prosecutor's order. It was learned that Demirer will be taken to Ankara.

Aslı Bayramoğlu and Heval Elçi were detained within the scope of the operation.

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY

The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs made a statement regarding the operations and stated that, "Eight people have been taken into custody in Batman, included the HDP Provincial Chairman Nizamettin Toğuç, 25 in Agri, 5 in Ankara, 1 in Muş, 1 in Mardin, 1 in Sanliurfa. A total of 49 people were taken into custody".
