At least four prisoners killed, 61 injured in Evin Prison

The attack on prisoners in Evin Prison in Iran’s capital Tehran has left at least four prisoners dead and 61 others injured, according to official figures. Other sources speak of a much heavier toll.

According to Mizan Online of the Iranian Ministry of Justice, “four prisoners died of smoke poisoning caused by fire and 61 others were injured.”

The same source claimed that the prisoners who died are those sentenced for rape.

Images published on the social media show smoke rising above the prison, where gunshots are heard.

According to Mizan Online, only 10 of those injured have been hospitalized and 4 of them are in critical condition.

In addition to hundreds of political prisoners, a large number of protesters who were detained during the demonstrations after the death of Jina Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police, are also held in Evin Prison, which is notorious for torture.

A colonel named Mahmudi entered the 8th ward by use of force and said to the prisoners “Time for death to all of you”.
