Attack targeting police in Sur claimed by Revenge Units

A group calling itself Martyr Çiyager-Martyr Zeryan Revenge Units, claimed responsibility for an attack with hand grenade targeting Turkish police officers in Sur and added that two policemen were seriously injured.

A group calling itself Martyr Çiyager-Martyr Zeryan Revenge Units issued a statement claiming responsibility for an attack targeting Turkish police officers in Sur (Amed). 

The statemen reads: "On 14 December, our forces organized an action with hand grenades targeting the occupying special operations policemen located in Turgut Özal primary school in the district of Sur in Amed."

The Revenge Units added: "Two invaders were seriously injured in this action. Following the attack, the enemy threatened the surrounding shopkeepers and young people and tortured a young man, while our forces left the areas unharmed."

The group reported that their actions will continue.

The district of Sur witnessed an heroical resistance in 2016, when a handful of guerrillas and civilians defended the district, which had been under siege, for over three months. Turkish forces had first issued a curfew and then besieged the district which was almost entirely destroyed.
