August 15 Initiative celebrated throughout Europe

Kurdistan people living in Europe celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the August 15 Initiative marking the first action of the PKK against the Turkish army in 1984.

Kurdistan people living in Europe celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the August 15 Initiative, Day of Resurrection, in which PKK launched its first armed actions against the Turkish army in Siirt’s Eruh and Hakkari’s Şemdinli districts in the year of 1984.

BELGIUM - BRUSSELS

The celebration held in Belgium capital city Brussels was organised by Bêrîtan Women's Council and Democratic Kurdish Society Center (NAV-DEM) and started with a minute of silence.

Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) member Hecî Ehmedî spoke at the celebration stating that the values and experience grown from the August 15 Initiative within 33 years will lead the era of revolutions in the Middle East to an era of great revolutions of a democratic and free life.

After a presentation of the speech of People's Defense Central Headquarters Commander Murat Karayilan, speeches were held by Bêrîtan Women's Council co-chair Dûdiye Alabay, and Martyrs' Families Council member Sultan Uğraş on the historical importance of the 15 August initiative.

The celebration ended with festive halay dances and slogans of "Long Live Leader Apo".

SWITZERLAND - LAUSANNE

Dozens of people gathered in the Democratic Kurdish Society Center (NCDK) in Swiss city Lausanne, and celebrated the 33rd anniversary of 15 August.

Following a minute of silence, the history of the 15 August operation was presented on a screen, and a speech was held by NCDK-Switzerland Co-chair Hatice Kendal.

The activity ended with slogans "Long Live Leader Apo", "Long Live Commander Egîd".

FRANCE - MARSEILLE

Kurdistan people living in French city Marseille celebrated by hundreds the anniversary of 15 August at the Vieux-Porte Square. The tourists and locals followed the activity with great interest, which started after a minute of silence, with festive halay dances celebrating the occasion.

The statement delivered by People's Defense Central Headquarters Commanders Murat Karayilan, in the presence of 500 guerrillas in the Medya Defense Zones of Qandil, was presented on a screen in Vieux-Porte Square.

After that, the activity continued with festive halay dances by the music of TEV-ÇAND singers from Marseille, and ended with chants of slogans as "Long Live Leader Apo", "Long Live PKK".

AUSTRIA - VIENNA

Kurdish people living in Austrian capital city Vienna organised an event at Ressele Park, and distributed leaflets in German and English informing of the meaning of the 15 August initiative.

The activity ended with halay dances and slogans "Long Live PKK", and "Long Live Leader Apo".

NORWAY - OSLO

Kurdistan people living in Norwegian capital city Oslo also celebrated the 33rd anniversary of 15 August initiative at the Democratic Kurdish Society Center.

Following a minute of silence for the martyrs of freedom, and a video presentation, music groups of Kurdish locals played their own composed music on the revolution and raised the people to festive halay dances.

A speech was held by Seher Aydar, Norwegian parliament candidate for 11 September 2017, who informed the people on the upcoming elections.

SWEDEN - STOCKHOLM

On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of 15 August initiative and to demand freedom for Öcalan, a march was staged in Swedish capital city Stockholm.

Kurdistan people gathered at 18.00 at Humlegard Park and started to march towards the Swedish parliament carrying placards reading "Freedom for Öcalan is freedom for Kurdistan", banners of Öcalan and flags of PKK, KCK and YPG/YPJ.

The march turned into a rally in front of the Swedish parliament at Mynttorget, where speeches were held on behalf of Democratic Kurdish Society Center in Sweden, telling of the importance of the 15 August operation for the Kurdish people and freedom movement. The speakers highlighted the aggravated isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and demanded his immediate release.

The activity ended with slogans of "Long Live Leader Apo" and festive halay dances.
