Australian MP calls for “Freedom for Öcalan”

MP Boyd pointed out that Abdullah Öcalan and the PKK have been key players in fighting for justice for Kurdish people through decades of political and violent conflict inflicted by the Turkish government.

Australian Greens MP in New South Wales (NSW) Parliament, Abigail Boyd, expressed her support for the international campaign “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, Political Solution to the Kurdish Question”.

The campaign, which was launched simultaneously in over a hundred places all around the world on 10 October, unites social movements, political parties, municipalities, trade unions, activists, intellectuals and millions of Kurds and people in solidarity with the Kurdish liberation struggle worldwide around a common goal: the participation of Abdullah Öcalan in a dialogue for a just and democratic political solution to the Kurdistan question in Turkey, which has remained unresolved for more than a century.

In a speech at the NSW Parliament, MP Boyd stated that the treatment of Öcalan is in violation of Turkish international law and international law.

The MP joined the appeal for the freedom of the Kurdish leader, who, she said, is a beacon of hope for Kurdish people across the globe.
