Stocks of baby formula and milk, the basic daily needs of thousands of babies from Kobanê, have run out in Suruç.

Stocks of baby formula and milk, the basic daily needs of thousands of babies from Kobanê, have run out in Suruç.

It has been reported by volunteers working in aid delivery in Suruç that the supplies of baby formula and milk have run out despite the continuing campaign: “Buy one more bottle of milk and packet of formula for babies of Kobanê when you buy it for your child”. The volunteers called on everyone to be aware of the issue and to contribute to the campaign.

Of 190 thousands refugees from Kobanê, who had to flee to Suruç following the attacks of ISIS, 40% are children, while most of the remaining 60% are women. The basic daily needs of children and women are among the most urgently required items in the town. Despite the fact the campaign for baby food and milk continues, stocks are about to run out. Thousands of children and women staying in the tent cities of Kader Ortakaya, Arin Mirxan, Suphi Nejat Ağırnaslı, Kobanê, Rojava and Şehit Gelhat await assistance.

Volunteers in Suruç announced that there is an urgent need for baby food, diapers and sanitary pads, and called on everyone to contribute to the ongoing aid campaign. A volunteer in Suruç, Aslı Saraç, also a member of the Ankara branch of the Human Rights Association, said the need for aid continues in Suruç after the victory in Kobanê.

Saraç said there is a specific need for baby formula of number 1, 2, 3 and 4, as they have run out of stocks, pointing to the urgency of the situation. Saraç drew attention to the fact that there are thousands of children staying in the villages and neighbourhoods as well as in the tent cities, adding that the number of children increases each day as there is currently migration from other towns to Suruç. Saraç stressed that the most urgently needed items on a daily basis are baby formula and milk, adding that diapers and breakfast foods are also among the urgent needs.
