Baghdad expects further steps from Hewler

Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Sed Hedîsi stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government accepting the Iraqi Federal Court’s decree means that the referendum has been cancelled.

Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Sed Hedîsi spoke about the statement made by the Kurdistan Regional Government regarding the Iraqi Federal Court’s decree that “The constitution doesn’t give the right to secede to any constituent”, and said that the acceptance of the decree means the referendum has been cancelled.

Hedîsi said they expect practical steps to be taken and added: “The Iraqi Federal Court has issued a decree on the referendum. That decree defends the unity, not the fragmentation of Iraq. Accepting the decree means cancelling the referendum. We see it in this framework. And moving forward, we expect some practical steps to be taken. Then political dialogue should start.”
