Bağlar Municipality named Ceylan Önkol a new park for the borough

Bağlar Municipality Assembly named a park Ceylan Önkol, the Kurdish child who was murdered in 2009.

Bağlar Municipality Assembly took a new decision for a park planned to be opened at its October meeting.

HDP Parliamentary Group decided to name the park Ceylan Önkol Park.

The park which will be opened on 1124th Street in Bağcılar Neighborhood. The motion submitted was approved with 30 votes in favour and 7 against.

The decision of the municipal council must also be submitted to the Bağlar District Governor's office for approval.

On 4 October 2017, the Assembly of Bağlar Municipality called the same park Ceylan Önkol, but the district governor refused.

Ceylan Önkol, was a 12-year-old Kurdish girl who was killed by a howitzer by the Turkish military while she was pasturing sheep in Hambaz (Xambaz) hamlet of the village of Şenlik in Lice district in Diyarbakir province on 28 September 2009.
