Batman KCK trial resumed in Diyarbakır

The third hearing of KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) case in Batman is resumed at Diyarbakır 9th High Criminal Court. A total of 32 politicians, 26 among whom are under arrest, are tried in Batman KCK case, including BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Batman chairperson Şeymus Azboy.

The hearing began with the giving of evidence, with Kurdish interpreters also standing ready in the hearing room. The politicians standing trial defended themselves in their mother tongue Kurdish.

Reading the opinion following the defense of politicians, the counsel for the prosecution demanded the release of three politicians, Süleyman Arslan, Mahmut Söner and KURDİ-DER branch chair Şeyhmus Arslan on the grounds of the “changing of the classification of offence”.

The counsel on the other hand demanded the continuation of the detention of other politicians in consideration of “strong criminal suspicions, spoliation of evidence and nature of crime”.
