A Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) delegation will visit the district of Þemdinli where Kurdish guerrillas have been active since 23 July.
The visit will take place on 17 August and aims to carry out a survey in the area since the Turkish government is trying to hide the truth as to what is going on since the beginning of the operation and clashes. Turkish authorities claim the operation has ended several days ago.
According to the report by Dicle News Agency (DIHA), the BDP-DTK delegation includes co-chairs of both organizations, as well as BDP Group Deputy Chair Ýdris Baluken, BDP MPs Ertuðrul Kürkçü, Levent Tüzel, Hüsamettin Zenderlioðlu, Halil Aksoy, Nazmi, EMEP (Labor Party) President Selma Gürkan, ÖDP(Freedom and Democracy Party) co-chairs Alper Taþ and Bilge Seçkin Çetinkaya, SDP (Socialist Democracy Party) President Rýdvan Turan and ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed) President Figen Yüksekdað.
Evaluating the current situation in the region of Þemdinli, BDP Diyarbakýr MP Nursel Aydoðan, said that the delegation will share its findings with the public opinion after the visit.
Aydoðan pointed out that Þemdinli has witness a previously unknown scenario for the last three weeks. The PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) has in fact declared a new strategic phase in the struggled called ‘Revolutionary Operation’.
Aydoðan criticized the AKP government for continuing to hide behind its “terrorist organization” definition of the PKK instead of understanding and analyzing the new phase initiated by the guerrillas.
“In our opinion, - she said - the PKK will be trying to push the AKP government to a point where it would be forced to face the reality and start talking about a political solution through democratic means. This being the case, the ruling AKP should pave the way for a democratic solution”. The BDP MP called on the government to show a different approach towards the Kurdish issue.
