BDP asks parliamentary inquiry on Yüksekova

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Hakkari deputy Adil Zozani has tabled a parliamentary question and asked for a Parliamentary Inquiry in order to investigate the murder by police of two Kurdish civilians, Reşit İşbilir and Veysel İşbilir, in Gever, Hakkari's Yüksekova district on 6 December.

Zozani reminded that 19 years old Bemal Tokçu was severely wounded by a bullet fired which hit him on the head during the police crackdown on people joining the funeral one day later.

BDP deputy stressed that it was police who led to provocation by targeting civilians, and demanded a parliamentary inquiry to ensure that relevant authorities expose and try those responsible for the killing of two civilians and the provocation created in the district on the day of the funeral.

Hakkari deputy Zozani asked the following questions for which he asked for an answer from the Minister of the Interior, Muammer Güler;

- Have judicial authorities launched an investigation into the incident, as has been argued by the governor of Hakkari in a statement after the incident? If they have, what is the scope of the investigation?

- The statement of the governor claims that the two men killed by police engaged in combat with police and attacked police with heavy weapons, despite the fact that two people were killed while trying to close their workplace. If the governor's allegations are true, are there any evidences or pictures taken during their clash with police? If these people attacked police with weapons, what happened to these weapons, were they seized?

- Has any action been taken against the distortion of the killings by the Turkish media which used the images of previous news while reporting the incident with an aim to mislead the public?

- Has any investigation been opened into the attitude of police forces during the incident, administrative chiefs that tried to hide the truths after the incident, and the negligence of relevant authorities?

- In consideration of the timing and manner of the incident, it is a common opinion that the killings might be aimed at sabotaging the ongoing “Democratic Resolution and Peace Process” in Turkey. Is this fragile situation considered in the course of the investigation into the incident?
