Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) released a written statement in response to recent lynching attempts against Kurds in the provinces of Afyon and Karabük.
A number of Kurdish citizens in the mentioned provinces have been subjected to attacks by groups calling themselves “patriotic people” since 28 December 2012 when a university student aged 18 lost his life as a result of a quarrel between a Turkish and Kurdish group. The Kurdish families in the district of Sultandaðý, where the discussion first broke out, are preparing to leave the town where they have been struggling for life since they were forced to leave their hometowns, Van, Bitlis and Muþ, because of economic conditions 20 years ago.
Commenting the recent attacks against Kurds as a part of the security concept of the AKP government, BDP warned that this approach not only deepened the deadlock in the Kurdish question but also strengthened the grounds for social segregation.
BDP remarked that with this security concept AKP government has been paving the way for attacks against Kurdish institutions as well as Kurdish citizens in western provinces.
Referring to attacks targeting Kurdish students in the province of Karabük, BDP underlined that the Kurdish students in the city have also been dismissed from student residences and subjected to threats since they staged a protest demo to commemorate the victims of Roboski Massacre on 28 December.
BDP ended its statement calling on Turkey's people and all political parties, NGOs, press organizations and members to display social sensitivity about the lynching attempts against Kurds to ensure social peace in the new year.
