BDP congress attacked by nationalists

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) provincial congress in the southern province of Hatay was attacked by a large group of nationalists on Saturday.
The BDP congress was attacked by hundreds of ultranationalists who carried Turkish flags and chanted insulting slogans during the speech of BDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş. Despite the security measures in place the nationalist group attacked the participants of the congress following Demirtaş's speech.
The congress was attended by around 600 people including BDP executives from neighboring countries Adana, Mersin and Osmaniye,
The group threw stones on the buses carrying the delegates as they left the congress hall. Many people were wounded in the attack as the windows of buses the buses were broken.
BDP co-chair Demirtaş had to be taken out of the congress hall with two armored police vehicles, while the delegates had to wait for a long time before being able to leave the congress hall.
Releasing a written statement on the attack in Hatay on Saturday, BDP Head Office said that the congress had been completed succesfully despite the fascist attack.
The BDP said that nobody among the delegates had sustained major injuries in the attack which was described as worrying but didn't last long.
Earlier last week a delegation of the People's Democratic Congress (HDK) was attached by nationalist groups while on a political tour around the Black Sea region.
The HDK tour was organized with the purpose of informing the public about the peace process and democratic solution to the Kurdish question.
