BDP delegation returns to Ankara

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and Istanbul deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder left Hewler on Monday after they delivered Öcalan's second letter to Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) executives in Kandil on 5 April.

Following the delivery of the letter and a meeting with BDP members, KCK executives handed in their reply letter to the BDP delegation on Monday.

Making a short statement before leaving Kandil, Demirtaş said they didn't know about the content of the letter which -he noted- had been given to them in an envelope. Demirtaş said they would enable the delivery of KCK's letter to the Kurdish leader through relevant authorities. He remarked that a BDP delegation could pay the fifth visit to Imralı to discuss most recent developments face to face after Öcalan received that letter.

“We expect Mr. Öcalan to make a decision after these correspondences. Should he happen to make a call, it will become clearer in the next phase. I believe the discussion we held in Kandil has been very efficient for the KCK side”.

BDP co-chair stated that the KCK executives they met in Kandil voiced some concerns some of which -he added- they tried to remove during the meeting but some others still remain unrelieved. Pointing out that the government could relieve Kandil's concerns, Demirtaş said, “In order to remove the obstacles before the process, the government should be more courageous in terms of using the language of peace and solution and not causing hesitation about the reliable steps it should take. This is what we have observed in Kandil”.

Referring to the environment in Kandil, Demirtaş said that, “When looked from Turkey, Kandil is seen like a center of war. However, all those we have met here are ready for a lasting and dignified peace more than ever. They just expect the government to relieve the concerns it has caused”.
