A delegation of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), including co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, visited Şırnak (Şirnex) and its districts of İdil (Hezex), Silopi and Cizre (Cizîr) on Friday morning. The BDP delegation met opinion leaders, sect leaders and NGOs here in the scope of the ongoing resolution process in search of a solution to the Kurdish question.
Speaking in Şırnak, BDP co-chair Demirtaş called attention to the importance of public opinion and support for the resolution process and remarked that they were ready to do whatever necessary to ensure a healthy progress in the process. Demirtaş pointed out that the process was a particular concern to not only Kurds in all parts of Kurdistan but also all the Turks living in Turkey.
Remarking that arms have offered no solution to the Kurdish question for years now, Demirtaş underlined that this problem could be resolved without bloodshed in the event that the violated rights of Kurds are given back to them through negotiation and dialogue.
BDP co-chair criticized the CHP (Republican People's Party) and MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) for not objecting to the resolution process , adding that "Kurds are not eager to bear arms and wage a war, they just want to lead a life with their own identity, culture and language. The state will achieve nothing but cruelty by forcing them to be Turkish and to speak the Turkish language. Speaking about the Kurdish question and intending to offer a solution for it requires to lend an ear to Kurds and to their demands, not to the demands of MHP and CHP whose mentality indeed led to the emergence of the Kurdish question. The Kurdish people is the relevant side and interlocutor to be negotiated with in this process, in consideration of the fact that they are the victims of this problem. Just like the KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) executives in Kandil and BDP executives who are doing their part in this historic process, all the Kurdish people, their opinion leaders and NGOs should also fulfill their responsibility in the resolution process".
