BDP deputy Önder met President Gül

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder met Turkish President Abdullah Gül and deputy PM Bülent Arınç on Tuesday about the protests taking place across the country.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Önder said that “This process is the most democratic opposition against the violation of law”.

Remarking that the Turkish state has failed to improve toleration towards democratic politics, Önder said that the government cannot make a decision on the process from its narrow perspective. Önder pointed out that the government must open areas for people to voice their objections.

BDP deputy criticized the police for personalizing the problem, remarking that police forces must review their present manner of training and structure which -he underlined- didn't comply with a democratic state. There is a need for a collective sense to treat the issue from all its aspects, said Önder and criticized relevant authorities for not putting democratic processes into action.

According to Önder, deputy PM Arınç said judicial and administrative investigations have been launched into the incidents in order to investigate every single person having led to violations of rights and the law.

BDP deputy said he would be taking part in the resistance till the very end, remarking that this revolt has been a significant turning point in Turkey and enabled everyone to draw necessary lessons from the process.

Steps have been taken for the democratization of this process which should from now on continue with peaceful  practices, Önder said and remarked that police must show a different attitude to ease the anger of people.

Önder said Taksim Platform will also meet Arınç in the prime minister's office at 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday.
