BDP MP Önder: Lice attack manifests goverment's intention towards peace process
Speaking to ANF about the Lice attack in which one protestor was killed and ten others wounded yesterday, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder strongly condemned the attack which -he said- has revealed the fact that the AKP government has no intention to keep the promises it made for the peace process.
"Kurds and all their institutions have kept all the promises they made for the achievement of democratic politics", he said and criticized the government for displaying an attitude intending to take Kurds in it hand so far. "I hope the institutions of the government take a lesson from this incident considering the fact that Kurds have no intention to make concessions about their honor and dignity".
Önder commented the solution of the Kurdish question as a matter of goodwill and strength, adding that the Turkish government has so far expressed that it has goodwill but no strength to come up with a solution to this problem. However- he said- now we see that it has no goodwill either. It seems there has been established a coalition between the government and the military. The point in question is not a military domination but a neo-kemalist coalition.
BDP deputy said he had doubts about the government's intention to wage a war considering that it cannot take such a risk, noting that the government has however preferred to treat the issue from an oriental perspective. "Even if the government has an intention for a war, the strength of the Kurdish people didn't allow it to put this intention into practice. It makes much of the power it has, regardless of the fact that no power can be greater than that of the people and no demand can be fairer than the demand for peace"
Remarking that the Lice incident must push the government to make new decisions, Önder said "Because it acted on the basis of a false acceptance claiming that the people didn't want the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and that people will eliminate the Kurdish movement in the event of its disarmament. However, having seen that this determination doesn't reflect the truth, the government has understood that the Kurdish people embrace their national and democratic identity and essentially eliminate the state's security policies. The government needs to see this truth and change its plans".
Önder said not only Kurds but also Turks should response to the attack in Lice, noting that it was only peoples themselves that could ensure the achievement of peace. "The government will make the process either more difficult or easier. We cannot talk about the permanence of the peace to be built from the top. The practice of democratic struggle is the most significant ground to gather the peoples together. The Kurdish and Turkish people's perception towards each other will witness a change from today on. It will not be very easy to overcome a poisoning created in the last a hundred year. However, the people will overcome this perception while practicing the struggle for democracy and peace will arise from this practice".
