BDP parliamentary group stage five-minute silent protest

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) parliamentary group staged a five-minute silent vigil at the general assembly of the parliamentary on Tuesday in solidarity with the "silent protest" taking place across the country in the new phase of the three weeks of anti-government protests. Thousands of people joining the protests have been brutalized by police, as well as gendarme in some places, using excessive tear gas and pressure water, as well as rubber bullet.

The 'standing man' protest spread across the country after performance artist Erdem Gündüz stood still for eight hours in Taksim Square Monday evening, simply standing in the Square, facing the Atatürk Cultural Center, without moving or speaking. Gündüz and some others were taken into custody by plainclothes policemen and were later released after bearing testimony.

The silent standing protest, the new form of the growing resistance, has been joined by thousands of people throughout the country since early Tuesday. People mainly gathered at central parks and in front of the offices of the institutions they protested against.
