BDP plans new actions to support the resolution process

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) released new plan of action for the achievement of the democratic resolution process. With the three-months campaign, which started with mass marches in Amed, Mersin and Adana on 30 June, the party will be calling on the ruling AKP government to take steps for the accomplishment of the resolution process.

In a written statement on the action plan, BDP said that their campaign would be a significant step aiming to remind the Turkish government of its responsibilities for the second stage and to avoid approaches that may interrupt the democratic resolution process.

BDP pointed out that the main demand of the actions would be freedom for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. The party listed other demands of the campaign as follows;

-release of all ill and political prisoners

-ending of the construction of military posts, dams and hydroelectric power plants

-ending of the ecocide and the destruction of nature

-ending of the ongoing military and police activity

-removal of all obstacles to the use of mother tongue in all areas of life, scools being in the first place

-abolishment of the anti-terror law and anti-democratic laws

-abolishment of the village guard system

-reducement of the 10 percent election threshold

-taking of the precautions necessary to end violence against women and the punishment of perpetrators

The party also announced a one-month program of activities which include mass marches till 6 June, detailed as follow;

-30 June: Amed, Adana, Mersin, Antep

-1 July: Van, Mardin, Urfa

-2 July: Şırnak, Muş

-3 July: Hakkâri, Bitlis, Adıyaman

-4 Temmuz: İstanbul, Batman, Ağrı

-5 Temmuz: Siirt, Bingöl, Iğdır

-6 July: marches in other cities

Besides the marches, the party has also organized a commemoration ceremony in Sivas and Ankara on 2 July, to remember the victims of the Sivas massacre, and a demo in front of Metris prison in Istanbul to demand freedom for pisoners, led by TUHAD-FED.

One other demo will be staged in the main Kurdish city Dİyarbakır on 5 July in releation with the Temizöz case, one of the most prominent cases in unsolved murders.

The second week of the campaign will continue with sit-in acts in which people will also remember those who died in the 14 July death fast that jailed leading staff of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) started in 1982, in protest against the military coup in 1980 and practices in prisons.

The third week of the activities will be staged in solidarity with the people of Rojava and their revolution. The dates of events for the third week are;

Mass marches will be staged from 24 to 30 July to protest against the recently enhanced construction of military posts, dams and hydroelectric power plants. The first march will take place in Şırnak and the last one in Istanbul.

BDP called on all democracy powers in the country to support the campaign which -it said- will be witnessing the most intense program of democratic and civil activities ever. The party remarked that everyone in all areas should urge the government to take steps in order that the non-conflict environment become permanent and a lasting peace could be achieved.
