BDP stages sit-in in Amed
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Amed provincial organization staged a sit-in in front of its office in the main Kurdish city Amed on Sunday.
The sit-in was organized in the scope of the campaign BDP launched to call on the government to take steps for a solution to the Kurdish question. Protests will continue across the city today.
Making a statement to the press at the sit-in, which was joined by a number of people as well as NGOs, BDP Amed provincial co-chair Zübeyde Zümrüt remarked that the ruling AKP government has taken no steps so far in the ongoing democratic resolution process which -she said- started thanks to the struggle of the Kurdish people.
Referring to the Lice attack in which one person was killed and ten others were wounded by soldiers on 28 June, Zümrüt said that democratic solution didn't mean shooting people and building dams and hydroelectric power plants.
She underlined that the Kurdish people will continue their protests until their demands are satisfied.
On the other hand, police attacked a group of demonstrators who gathered in the southern province of Adana yesterday to protest against the Lice attack in the village of Yakacık (Hêzan).
Hundreds of youngsters closed the main road to traffic and lighted fires in the neighborhood of Şakirpaşa in Adana's Seyhan district, often chanting slogans in favour of PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Police, having arrived at the scene soon after the beginning of the protest, attacked the group using intense tear gas and pressure water, as well as rubber bullets. Clashes broke out as protestors responded to the police attack with blast bombs and molotov cocktails.
Clashes spread to other areas and lasted till late evening.
