BDP submits names for Imralı delegation - UPDATE
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chairs Gültan Kışanak and Selahattin Demirtaş have released a written statement on Wednesday, announcing that it has submitted to the Ministry of Justice three names for the delegation to make the next visit to Imralı Island. BDP stated that deputies Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Altan Tan and BDP group deputy chair Pervin Buldan have been chosen for the delegation to meet Abdullah Öcalan, the jailed leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), as part of ongoing process of talks on the way to negotiations.
Referring to the message of Abdullah Öcalan, who has said that he wanted to talk to co-chairs of the BDP through his brother Mehmet Öcalan who visited him on Monday, BDP said Öcalan had also proposed three other names, Önder, Tan and Buldan, in case of denial of permission for a visit by co-chairs”.
BDP said that they attach importance to Öcalan's intention and proposal for overcoming the current deadlock, and added that the three names have officially been submitted to the Ministry of Justice.
Speaking at a press conference with his Libyan counterpart, Ali Zeidan, on Wednesday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that the Ministry of Justice will tonight review the names the BDP has officially submitted today for the delegation to make the next visit to Imralı Island. Erdoğan noted that the Ministry will announce the decision to the public on Thursday.
The first meeting with Öcalan on Imralı Island took place on 3 January. The delegation then was made up of independent deputy and DTK co-chair Ahmet Türk and Peace and Democracy (BDP) deputy Ayla Akat Ata.
