Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) released a new plan of action to deal with the ongoing hunger strike in prisons. “Support by thousands outside to thousands inside” is the slogan defining the new action plan.
In the letter signed by co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaþ and Gültan Kýþanak and sent to all provincial and district organizations, BDP underlined that “the risk of death as a result of the hunger strike is increasing by the hour despite the AKP government’s attitude towards the protest”.
The party announced that a 48-hours hunger strikes will be carried out by thousands across the country in solidarity with fasting prisoners and the demands they have highlighted.
According to the letter, on 17 and 18 November thousands will join the prisoners' hunger strike under the leadership of the BDP. It was noted that the solidarity actions across Turkey will be announced by simultaneous press conferences at 10:00 on Saturday. BDP underlined that “children, old and sick people shall never be allowed to go on hunger strike”.
The party remarked that actions of civil disobedience will also be carried out during these two days to increase public awareness. The BDP called on all Kurdish people to turn off lights and take to the streets to join rallies at 19:00 on both Saturday and Sunday.
According to the letter, co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ will attend rallies in Van on Saturday and in Muþ on Sunday.
The party stated that sit-in and the rallies in front of prisons should continue and be joined much more people.
