BDP: We will be in Roboski for all civilians murdered

The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), which held its Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting on 10 December, has described the elections of 2014 as a referendum. The party's CEC also announced that it will be in Roboski on the second anniversary of the massacre to commemorate all civilians murdered by the state.

The CEC emphasised it was unacceptable that three people were killed in Yüksekova by the state in a targeted way and that protests following these killings were dealt with brutally.

At the BDP CEC meeting the decision was taken to be in the village of Roboski on the second anniversary of the massacre to commemorate the children of Roboski, the10 people killed in Amed on 30 March 2006, Aydın Erdem, Halil İbrahim Oruç, Medeni Yıldırım, Ethem Sarısülük, Mehmet Reşit İşbilir, Veysel İşbilir, Bemal Tokçu and all those civilians killed during the rule of the AKP, and to develop the struggle and call the culprits to account.

The BDP emphasised that these attacks that disregard the right to life of the Kurdish people, are also an attack on the democratic process of resolution, adding: "Our party and all Kurdish political circles are making great efforts to persuade the government to end its resistance and ensure there are legal guarantees and that the process advances. However, the government has from the beginning had a mindset to limit its approach to the process to one of merely securing an end to armed conflict." The BDP stressed that the fact the government has not put the talks on a legal footing and moved on to proper negotiations had offered those opposed to the process and parallel state elements the opportunity to engage in provocations.

The BDP  pointed out that: "There are two paths in front of us: either we will develop meaningful negotiations or we will be condemned to chaotic conflict."

The BDP made clear that the Kurdish people would, as ever, make all efforts to frustrate the provocations and continue to work for the dialogue taking place between the Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and the state delegation to be put on a legal footing and turn into substantial negotiations. The BDP statement added that the state tradition of not recording Kurdish gains in documents had most recently been illustrated by the development in budget talks, "The word 'Kurdistan', uttered by the PM in Diyarbakır has been banned in Ankara at the Turkish parliament at the bidding of the AKP."

The BDP recalled that everything gained so far was as a result of their own struggle and that this made it imperative that they were well organised. The statement continued: "We take this opportunity to greet the youth who have recently held their first congress under the slogan 'Organised Youth, Free Future', stressing our belief that their struggle will be a guide."

It was emphasised at the meeting that the upcoming local elections were not limited to winning municipalities, but would also provide the opportunity for people to create their own administrations against the authoritarian AKP.

At the same time, -BDP said- votes will be cast for a genuine solution and a lasting peace. It is necessary to evaluate these elections as a referendum between two lines. We are fully confident that our party will prepare for these elections with this awareness.

"The debates over Rojava, the arming of gangs to attack the Kurdish people, the closure of border crossings, the refusal of visas to Salih Muslim, and the extraordinary resistance of the people of Rojava and their development of democratic politics and their own administration, are all, in fact, part of this struggle between these two lines", BDP said and underlined that it is therefore incumbent on the party to set up a solidarity bridge with Rojava. In the coming days we will unite our activities with election work, it added.

"We must prepare for Rojava rallies that are to take place in Cizre and Nusaybin on 22 December, the first anniversary of former Diyarbakır MP Şerafettin Elçi's death on 27 December in Cizre and the Roboski commemoration on 28 December", the BDP added.
