Reactions to the Swedish Security Police's (Säpo) crackdowns on Kurds continue. Recently, Göteborg Municipal official and Left Party Group Chairman Daniel Bernmar condemned Säpo's oppression of the Kurds.
In a video released on his social media account Bernmar said that each person in Sweden is equal before the law and enjoys the same legal protection. Stressing that all people have the right to defend themselves according to the United Nations Convention on Human Rights, Bernmar said that this constitutes the basis of the rule of law.
He said that the Swedish authorities seek to deport Zozan Büyük, a health worker living in Örebro province, mother of 2 children and that no one, including Büyük herself, knew why such a decision was taken because the file has confidentiality order.
Increased attacks on Kurds
Reminding that Büyük could not defend himself because she did not know what she was accused of, Bernmar pointed out that there has been a significant increase in the number of Kurds that the police wanted to deport.
Calling everyone to oppose the injustices against the Kurds, Bernmar said, “I and the Left Party oppose the criminalization of the Kurds and their organizations. We want the cases of Zozan and others to be reevaluated. Such a treatment is not suitable for a constitutional state like Sweden."
Bernmar also urged the Swedish government to remove the PKK from its "list of terrorist organizations".
