Bianet intern killed in clashes in Kobanê
Hakan Çelik (25), a former intern of the Bianet media outlet was killed in defense of the Kobanê town of West Kurdistan, Rojava, during fight against ISIS gangs.
YPG Press Center released yesterday the names of 8 individuals who were killed in action against ISIS in Kobanê. Among the deceased is Hakan Çelik (25), a former bianet intern who had recently completed his journalism degree in Istanbul University. YPG Press Center announced that Hakan Çelik, under alias Rizgar Rêzan, died on October 20.
According to the information by Çelik family, their son’s body was transferred to Istanbul and buried in Büyükçekmece Cemetary yesterday.
Hakan Çelik started internship at bianet in November 2012. His work included reporting of Saturday Mothers/People sit-ins, student protests, Roboski Massacre and women’s rights struggles.
“Being on the side of students to report on their resistance and covering Roboski Massacre commemorations were not simply newsworthy things for me,” he wrote in his bianet internship commencement article.
