Birol: Our aim in Istanbul is to double the votes we got in 2018

HDP Istanbul co-chair Ilknur Birol said that their aim in these elections in Istanbul is to get twice the votes they got in 2018.

HDP Istanbul co-chair Ilknur Birol spoke to ANF about the goals of the Labor and Freedom Alliance in Istanbul. She said that they are working to at least double the vote they received in the 2018 election in Istanbul, and added: "We received 1 million 204 thousand votes in the 2018 elections. Young voters will vote for the first time this year. In this process, the trust of our people, including the young voters, towards our party and its program has increased. That's why our aim is to at least double the vote. We believe that this interest from Kurds, women, Alevis and young people can be rewarded, and we have been working intensely for this target for a very long time."

Noting that the option to enter the elections with the Green Left Party was already discussed among themselves until the legal situation confirmed that the HDP should run with the Green Left Party, Birol said: "I can say that this proposal was accepted without any problems, since all the preparation for this to happen was carried out months in advance and with the full knowledge of our people. Which is why the Green Left Party was very warmly received. It was a party that was already a component of the HDP. After the process of turning it into an election party, it was easy to get our voters on board. There is no question of alienation, distress or rejection."

We are committed to success

Ilknur Birol said that they will carry out the electoral work in a way that will make the Labor and Freedom Alliance win. “We are committed to success. This election will be a winning election and a joint run for us in the alliance. Everything shows us that we are stronger if we run together. We are doing our best to make sure this happens.”
