Between 3,500 and 4,000 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Iran in the past three days. A high number of deaths has also been reported.
Despite this second wave of coronavirus, Iran has opened the borders with Hakkari and Van.
Meanwhile, the cases of coronavirus are also increasing in Van. This is mainly due to the fact that the Turkish state has hardly taken any measures to counter and control the outbreak.
The number of people who contracted the infection in Van has increased to 600. So far, ten people have officially died from coronavirus, but the real numbers are likely to be much higher. 75,000 people are currently in quarantine and in many places they are faced with a very difficult situation. This is another reason why the opening of the border crossings increases fear among people in the region.
The AKP in the region had already spoken out against the closure of the border when the coronavirus first spread. Finally, the border was only closed because of the pressure from the population and civil society organizations on 23 February.
