Buldan: Resolution process on a knife's edge

Speaking to Sterk TV about the democratic resolution process in search of a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question, BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) group deputy chair Pervin Buldan called on the government to do its part in order for the advancement of the process.

Buldan said the democratic resolution process was on a knife's edge and faced the risk of further deadlock because of the government's approach.

BDP group deputy chair remarked that the government has unveiled an election package after taking no steps to answer the Kurdish side's demands for the achievement of a permanent non-conflict environment, the engagement of the Parliament in the process of withdrawal of Kurdish guerrillas from Turkish borders and the enactment of laws for democratisation.

Stressing that PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan, KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) and the BDP all called for the initiation of a negotiation process, now that the dialogue process is over, Buldan said that; “We should avoid making comments on the course of the process from now on because Mr. Öcalan says that he might recede from talks and we think the government needs to take some steps before this happens”. Buldan pointed out that the government should make the most of this opportunity and not waste the process which -she underlined- has been achieved with great difficulty and enabled the ending of the bloodshed in the country.

“If this process is wasted, nobody should ever complain about its failure after that time. We, the public of Turkey, public opposition and the government all bear responsibility to ensure the advancement of this process”, she underlined.

Referring to the approaching local elections to take place next year, Buldan said that the Kurdish people will be taking to the streets in the election process and attaining their demands which they know will not be granted to them by the ruling AKP government.

Buldan said the local elections at the same time constituted a referendum process for the Kurdish people, adding that Kurds will continue to manifest their stance by peace and the peace process.
