Bus Tour for Öcalan

Bus Tour for Öcalan

The International Initiative Freedom for Öcalan is preparing for a bus tour which will include 70 central cities in eight countries.

The Initiative has so far put its signature under remarkable protest actions around Europe including the fifteen-day Long March from Geneva to Strasbourg last winter, which was followed by the 52-days irreversible hunger strike in Strasbourg in April and the still ongoing vigil action in Strasbourg.

The Initiative’s statement on the new event pointed out that “the basic duty of the Kurdish people should be to enhance organization and struggle to ensure the termination of captivity of their leader at the present time when the revolutionary move of the Kurdish people has reached a significant phase in all parts of Kurdistan”.

The statement said that the Initiative will continue to make uninterrupted efforts with the slogan “Freedom for Öcalan, status for Kurdistan” by starting a new process of international public information, exposure of the conspiracy and isolation of Öcalan and ensuring active public support for Öcalan’ liberation.

The tour which will take place between 8 September and 24 October and include the countries of Germany, Sweden, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Holland aims to inform international public about the isolation conditions of Öcalan, his key role in the solution of the Kurdish problem and his works for the freedom of the Kurdish people. It is also aimed to ensure European community’s participation and support for the “Freedom for Öcalan” campaign.

The statement called on all Kurdish organizations, establishments, media organs, intellectuals and artists as well as all patriotic people of Kurdistan and their friends to join the tour.

The Initiative also criticized the approach of international institutions and governments towards the Kurdish issue and urged all relevant institutions, such as the European Council, Committee for the Prevention of Torture and the European Union, to support works for Öcalan’s freedom.
