Campaign for author Aslı Erdoğan jailed over alleged PKK membership

An online signature campaign has been launched demanding the release of author and Özgür Gündem columnist Aslı Erdoğan who was jailed late yesterday after three days in custody.

An online signature campaign has been launched demanding the release of author and Özgür Gündem columnist Aslı Erdoğan who was jailed late yesterday after three days in custody.

Özgür Gündem Publication Advisory Board member and columnist Aslı Erdoğan was jailed on alleged grounds of "spreading propaganda of and membership to PKK" and "disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state". Erdoğan was sent to Bakkırköy Women's Closed Prison.

The signature campaign, addressing to Turkish President, Prime Minister and Justice Minister, stresses that Aslı Erdoğan who has been jailed for writing for Özgür Gündem is among the most prominent authors around the world, saying; “We demand the immediate release of Aslı Erdoğan who hopes just a better, democratic and civilised country and promotes the Turkish literature through her ideas and works in almost all countries around the world”.
