CDU: The Erdoğan family’s assets abroad should be frozen

As the crisis between Germany and the AKP government deepens every day, the governing CDU wants the sanctions to be imposed against Ankara to target the Erdoğan family. CDU MP Roderich Kiesewetter voiced the demand to have Erdoğan’s assets abroad frozen.

The tensions and crises between the federal government led by the Christian Democrat politician Angela Merkel and the Erdoğan government are about to jump to a higher level. Following the crises of last week and Erdoğan’s insults to German politicians, Merkel’s party CDU demanded an increase in the sanctions to be imposed against the Erdoğan regime.

CDU’s foreign relations spokesperson Roderich Kiesewetter spoke to the RBB radio this morning and stated that the sanctions should directly target the Erdoğan family. Kiesewetter, who served as an officer and a general in the German army for many years, said: “For instance, we could freeze the Erdoğan family’s assets abroad and their bank accounts. We have many options on how to do that.”

“TURKEY SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM NATO IN THE MEDIUM TERM”

Kiesewetter said it doesn’t make sense to him that the Russian controlled oligarchies have their assets frozen while no sanctions are imposed against the Erdoğan family, and added: “We must think in the long term, and we must guarantee the shared values of Europe.”

Kiesewetter also said Europeans should stop going to Turkey for vacation under any circumstances, and concluded by saying that Turkey should be removed from NATO in the medium term.
