Selcuk Kozaðaçli, the President of the Çaðdaþ Hukukçular Derneði (Contemporary Lawyers Association, ÇHD), has been taken into custody at Atatürk Airport on Sunday. ÇHD President was taken to a Police Headquarters in Istanbul.
Kozaðaçlý has reportedly been detained in the scope of the expansive operation which ended up with the detention of 55 people, including 15 lawyers, of whom nine are members of the Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD)on Friday. The office of the Association was also raided in Friday's operation which mainly targeted members of the left group DHKP/C. An arrest warrant had also been issued for Kozaðaçlý who was not arrested that day because he was in Lebanon for a conference.
In a statement condemning the arrests on Friday, Kozaðaçlý had said that he would return Turkey after completing appointed interviews in Damascus. Kozaðaçlý noted that this attack against us is the result of the fear and grudge of the criminal government that couldnt get rid of our chase and that oppresses the peoples of the region in collaboration with imperialism.
On the other hand, 41 of the detainees, including 11 lawyers and ÇHD Istanbul Branch Chair Taylan Tanay, have been referred to the Istanbul Court in Çaðlayan.
