Ciaccheri: We need Abdullah Öcalan to be free!

Rome 8th District municipality mayor Amadeo Ciaccheri said: "We need Abdullah Öcalan's freedom."

Amedeo Ciaccheri, Mayor of Rome’s 8th District Municipality, underlined that the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has not been heard from for 32 months and has been kept in absolute isolation, should be lifted.

Ciaccheri, who came to the Ararat Kurdish Cultural Center in Rome at a time when occupation and genocidal attacks against the Kurdish people continued, said that he wanted to show his solidarity with the Kurdish community. Ciaccheri said, "I am in Ararat, the Kurdish center in Rome, working with the Kurdish community for the freedom of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan."

Ciaccheri pointed out the importance of the Kurdish People's Leader's freedom and said: "Mr. Abdullah Öcalan's freedom is an important issue for the left in Europe and Italy. We need Abdullah Öcalan's freedom before all the struggles in Europe. What is happening today in the Middle East shows the importance of his freedom."

Ciaccheri said that they will work to get the European Parliament, which has remained silent about the isolation, to take action, and added: “We will work together with the Rome City Council to draw the attention of the international and national community to a document that will enable the European Parliament to work for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. We are working on it. Abdullah Öcalan stayed in Rome and Rome continues to stand by the Kurdish people and President Abdullah Öcalan."
