Ciao Franca
Ciao Franca
Ciao Franca
If one could choose only one word to describe Franca Rame this would undoubtely be generousity.
Franca Rame died today. She was 84. Her name indissolubly linked to that of Dario Fo. An extraordinary couple. Of artists, of comrades.
Generousity was the red thread which keeps together her choices in a life always siding with the weakest, in the squares with workers and the '70s movements in Italy, in the improvised theaters, with that culture deeply rooted in the lives and dreams of people rather than in the accademies or the borgeoise's living rooms. In the prisons with the Red Aid when jails have begun filling up with struggle and resistance from the prisoners against repression and torture. In the civil society struggles in recent years, struggles for a better society, just and equal.
A generousity Franca has paid the price for and she has paid it on her own body, raped and tortured by the fascists, those "executioners" today opportunistically removed from the official history of the "Black Hearts". like many other pieces of history, locked away in the cobbers of the "national interest".
The Kurds know Franca and Dario well. They always supported the cause for Kurdish freedom and rights. They always had a word of support because the Kurdish cause was their cause. Franca (and Dario) was naturally siding with the Kurds because her sense of justice was so high... she would reject injustices and would simply stand fighting for those abused.
Ciao Franca, we will miss you greatly
