Çiçek cancels Parliament opening reception

In a press statement to the board members of the Association of Diplomacy Reporters he met in his office, Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Cemil Çiçek said he has decided to cancel the reception ceremony planned for the parliament’s opening day on 1 October.

Çiçek said he took this decision after considering “the current situation in the country” and the "victims of act of terror".

Underlining that the New Parliament will have the hard task of writing a new Constitution, the Parliamentary Speaker Çiçek said; “The most important task of the Parliament is to issue a new Constitution. The contributions of all parties to this Constitution will be important. Taking the oath and taking part in parliamentary works is both the duty and responsibility of the deputies. I invite every deputy to fulfill their responsibilities.”

To a journalist asking how the non participation of the BDP deputies would affect the parliamentary work, Çiçek replied that commission work in the parliament don’t depend on the participation of all parties.
