Clinton in Turkish visit on Syria

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be visiting Turkey today and will have talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan and her counterpart Ahmet Davutoðlu.

Clinton will have "lengthy and in-depth conversation" with Turkey's leaders to discuss a three-pronged strategy on Syria, a US official said.

One of the topics of Clinton’s meeting with Erdoðan and Davutoðlu is reported to be the Democratic Union Party (PYD) activity in North Syria and Ankara’s plan to establish security zones in the region.

Clinton’s meetings at midday hours will be followed by her meeting with representatives of Syrian opposition in Istanbul. U.S. Secretary of State is expected to announce a further 5, 5 million dollars humanitarian aid package for Syria during the meeting with opposition representatives.

Following the meeting in Turkey, Clinton will also have talks with Foreign Ministers of EU countries on the opposition groups in Syria.

On the other hand, United Nations diplomats have stated that former Foreign Minister of Algeria, Lahdar Brahimi (78), is expected to replace Kofi Annan as UN-Arab League joint special Representative of Syria.
