Co-mayor of Mardin's Mazıdağı district municipality, Necla Yıldırım has been detained due to an “arrest warrant” in the western province of Çanakkale. She was taken to Çanakkale police directorate.

Necla Yıldırım was removed from office by the Interior Ministry on July 14, 2016 and was replaced by the district governor whom the government appointed trustee to the municipality.
